My daughter wants a pet beagle for her birthday. Is this a good idea? We live in the contry so space is not a problem. We basically are wondering if these are good dogs. Please write back. Thanks.

Beagles are great dogs! What a great choice. Friendly, good with kids. Hey, any breed that includes Snoopy has got to be tops! Be aware that baying (the beagle version of a bark) and running off after cats and food, and any faint whiff thereof, may be a challenge with this breed. It's a great way to give children an opportunity to practice responsibility. I'd strongly recommend signing up for puppy training classes and continuing throught 8 months for all pups. Have your daughter do the research. It'll give her a feel for the 20 year commintment that's ahead! Good luck.
